7-0 victory over
St. Catherine Saturday afternoon at the SMU Ice Arena.
McCabe scored three times — giving her 28 for the season — and Hicks scored twice as the Cardinals locked up second place in the MIAC and home-ice advantage for the first round of the MIAC playoffs next weekend.
Hicks opened the scoring for the Cardinals at the 7:37 mark of the first period and McCabe added the first of her three goals two minutes later as SMU jumped out to a 2-0 first-period lead. McCabe and
Emily Kearns (Hopkins, Minn.) each netted second-period tallies as the Cardinals' lead ballooned to 4-0, and
Mo Hayes (Cottage Grove, Minn.), McCabe and Hicks closed out the scoring with goals in the third period.
The Cardinals, who improved to 15-3-0 in the MIAC and 19-5-0 overall, will host St. Thomas next weekend, with the winner of the two-game series facing the Gustavus-St. Catherine winner for the automatic berth in the women's national tournament, held in Rochester, N.Y.
