Game Summary

WINONA, Minn. — Tennie McCabe (Rochester, Minn.) and Christy Hicks (Bloomington, Minn.) accounted for five of the Cardinals' seven goals and goalie Missie Meemken (St. Cloud, Minn.) kicked out all 23 shots she faced as the Saint Mary's University women's hockey team closed out the regular season with a 7-0 victory over St. Catherine Saturday afternoon at the SMU Ice Arena.

McCabe scored three times — giving her 28 for the season — and Hicks scored twice as the Cardinals locked up second place in the MIAC and home-ice advantage for the first round of the MIAC playoffs next weekend.

Hicks opened the scoring for the Cardinals at the 7:37 mark of the first period and McCabe added the first of her three goals two minutes later as SMU jumped out to a 2-0 first-period lead. McCabe and Emily Kearns (Hopkins, Minn.) each netted second-period tallies as the Cardinals' lead ballooned to 4-0, and Mo Hayes (Cottage Grove, Minn.), McCabe and Hicks closed out the scoring with goals in the third period.

The Cardinals, who improved to 15-3-0 in the MIAC and 19-5-0 overall, will host St. Thomas next weekend, with the winner of the two-game series facing the Gustavus-St. Catherine winner for the automatic berth in the women's national tournament, held in Rochester, N.Y.
