ST. PETER, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University women's tennis team couldn't seem to catch a break Saturday as the Cardinals fell to Concordia 6-3 in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match played at Gustavus.
The Cardinals dropped all three singles matches that went the maximum three sets, including one in a third-set tiebreaker, and SMU also dropped a 9-8 decision at No. 1 doubles.
Christina Tobin (Houston, Texas) won the first set at No. 1 singles, but then dropped two straight 6-2-6-2 decisions.
Kim Bennett (Rockwell City, Iowa) lost a heart-breaking 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (2) match at No. 3 singles, and
Anna Tomes (Stillwater, Minn.) came up just short in losing 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 4 singles.
Nicole Hilo (Mendota Heights, Minn.) and Bennett were on the losing end of that marathon 9-8 No. 1 doubles match, while SMU doubles teams of Tomes-
Dena Bing (Cannon Falls, Minn.) and Tobin-
Keely Nyquist (Orono, Minn.) were both victorious.
