WINONA, Minn. — It certainly wasn't easy, but the Saint Mary's University women's tennis team notched its second Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win of the season Friday evening, winning five of the six singles matches en route to a 7-2 win over St. Catherine.
Christna Tobin (Houston, Texas),
Anna Tomes (Stillwater, Minn.) and
Dena Bing (Cannon Falls, Minn.) all won in straight sets for the Cardinals (2-3 MIAC, 2-4 overall) at No. 1, No. 4 and No. 5 singles, while
Nicole Hilo (Mendota Heights, Minn.) and
Emily Strom (Waterford, Wis.) had to go the distance to win 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 and 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (4) at No. 3 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
Kim Bennett (Fort Dodge, Iowa) dropped a heartbreaking 7-5, 1-6, 7-6 (4) match at No. 2 singles.
Bing and Tomes teamed for an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles, while Tobin and
Keely Nyquist (Oronoa, Minn.) completed the win with an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles.
