WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University women's tennis team's hopes of putting together its first two-game winning streak of the season came to a screeching halt Saturday, as Carleton raced to a 9-0 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory.
Carleton recorded four straight-set singles victories and swept all three doubles matches in handing SMU (2-4 MIAC, 2-5 overall) its fourth conference loss of the season.
SMU's
Kim Bennett (Fort Dodge, Iowa) and
Dena Bing (Cannon Falls, Minn.) took their singles matches to the limit — and then some — as both lost 1-6, 6-4, 7-6, with Bennett's third-set tiebreaker going 10-8, while Bing's went 8-6.
