WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University men's tennis team's bid for their first win of the season fell just short Sunday as the Cardinals dropped a 4-3 MIAC decision to Hamline Sunday.
"It was a tough one to take," admitted SMU coach
Jeff Halberg, whose Cardinals fell to 0-2 in the conference and 0-3 overall. "We had our chances, we just came up a bit short."
Geoff Granseth (Winona, Minn.) and
Jason Boll (Sauk Prairie, Wis.) each posted singles wins for SMU, with Granseth winning 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1, while Boll — making his first appearance of the season — posting a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 5.
Granseth and Boll also had a hand in helping the Cardinals to the one team point in doubles as Granseth teamed with
Brad Reichuber (Mahtomedi, Minn.) for a 9-8 win at No. 1 doubles, while Boll joined forces with
Chad Boyer (Albert Lea, Minn.) for n 8-2 triumph at No. 3 doubles.
