SMU's dominance of Hamline ends with 8-1 loss

WINONA, Minn. — Hamline put an end to the Saint Mary's University women's tennis team's three-year dominance with an 8-1 victory Sunday.

"They certainly are a much-improved team over the (Hamline) teams we've faced in the past," admitted SMU coach Jeff Halberg.

Christina Tobin (Houston, Texas) picked up the lone win for the Cardinals, posting a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles. Nicole Hilo (Mendota Heights, Minn.) dropped a three-setter at No. 2 singles, but no other Cardinal was able to win a set against the much-improved Pipers.
