Cardinals open season with 4-1 loss

DALLAS, Texas — The Saint Mary's University baseball team scored four times in the ninth inning to post a 6-2 victory over MacMurray and give the Cardinals their first win of the season Friday afternoon.

The Cardinals opened the season with a 4-2 loss to Concordia-Illinois in a game in which CI scored all four of its runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Scott Morrison (St. Paul, Minn.), David McMahon (Coon Rapids, Minn.) and Joe Duda (Rochester, Minn.) all collected two hits in SMU's win over MacMurray. Cory Kanz (Oronoco, Minn.) pitched four-hit ball over five innings, allowing two earned runs, while striking out two. Ian Bents (Fairmont, Minn.), Chuck Wright (Winona, Minn.) and Mia Daggett (La Crosse, Wis.) pitched four innings of scoreless ball to secure the win.

Duda, who laced a pair of doubles vs. MacMurray, was a perfect 3-for-3 and drove in one of SMU's two runs in the loss to Concordia-Illinois. Eric Williamson (St. Charles, Minn.) took the pitching loss, despite allowing just one earned run in four and one-third innigs of work.
