MANKATO, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University women's tennis team extended its winning streak to a season-high two straight Thursday, as the Cardinals breezed past Bethany Lutheran 9-0 in a nonconference match.
The Cardinals won five of the six singles matches in straight sets, not losing more than one game in any of the 10 sets.
Christina Tobin (Houston, Texas),
Kim Bennett (Fort Dodge, Iowa),
Nicole Hilo (Mendota Heights, Minn.),
Anna Tomes (Stillwater, Minn.) and
Keely Nyquist (Orono, Minn.) all won with relative ease, while
Dena Bing (Cannon Falls, Minn.) had a little tougher time at No. 5 singles, needing a third-set tiebreaker to beat Toni Smith 2-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7).
SMU (4-9 overall) completed its 9-0 win with a sweep of the three doubles matches as Bennett-Hilo, Bing-Tomes and Tobin-Nyquist won 8-1, 8-2 and 8-0, respectively.
