Gusties too much for Cardinal women

Donny Nadeau, SMU Sports Information Office

WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University women's tennis team got a first-hand look at what it takes to be a power in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, as the Gusties rolled to a 9-0 victory Sunday afternoon.

The Gusties, who have won 10 MIAC titles in the last 11 years — going 110-1 in that span — swept all six singles matches in straight sets, allowing SMU to win just four games combined in five of those six matches. SMU's Kim Bennett (Fort Dodge, Iowa) took GAC's Allison Kramer to 7-5 in the first set at No. 3 singles, before falling 6-0 in the second set.

Gustavus also swept the three doubles matches in convincing fashion, winning 8-0 at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles, and 8-3 at No. 3.

The loss snapped SMU's three-match winning streak, the Cardinals' longest streak since the middle of the 1998 season.
