MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University fastpitch softball team ran its Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference winning streak to 17 straight as the Cardinals swept Concordia 8-0 and 9-1 Saturday afternoon.

The Cardinals scored four runs in the third inning and added two in both the fifth and sixth en route to the Game 1 win. Ann Munzenmaier (Urbandale, Iowa) was a perfect 3-for-3 and Gina Rizzardi (Woodbury, Minn.) chipped in three hits in four at-bats to lead the Cardinals' 12-hit offensive attack. Jennifer Meyer (Oconomowoc, Wis.) was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and two runs scored, while Jackie Huegel (Alta Vista, Iowa) also drove in two runs. Jennifer Gonerka (St. Paul, Minn.) tossed five innings of two-hit ball to pick up the win, while Missy Blaser (Austin, Minn.) threw the sixth inning, allowing two hits.

In the nightcap, Jill Hocking (Apple Valley, Minn.) threw a five-inning two-hitter — giving up a lead-off double in the first inning and a two-out single in the fifth — while walking two and striking out nine. The Cardinals, who scored three runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings in improving to 17-1 in the MIAC and 27-5 overall, took advantage of seven Concordia errors. Laura Miller (White Bear Lake, Minn.) was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Hocking drove in two runs.
