WINONA, Minn. — Jill Hocking (Apple Valley, Minn.) tossed a six-inning no-hitter and Jennifer Gonerka (St. Paul, Minn.) and Missy Blaser (Austin, Minn.) combined on a five-inning no-hitter as the Saint Mary's University fastpitch softball team hammered Macalester 8-0 (6 innings) and 16-0 (5 innings) in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader Saturday at the SMU Field.

Hocking faced just one batter over the minimum, striking out a season-high seven and walking just one. The Cardinal offense made things easy for the senior hurler, scoring once in the first, once in the third and five times in the fourth, before closing things out with a solo run in the bottom of the sixth. Gina Rizzardi (Woodbury, Minn.) was a perfect 3-for-3, while Jennifer Meyer (Oconomowoc, Wis.) went 2-for-3 with three runs scored, and Jackie Huegel (Alta Vista, Iowa) and Hocking both chipped in two hits.

Gonerka started the second game on the mound for the Cardinals — who have now won five straight to improve to 11-5 overall and 3-1 in the MIAC. The sophomore pitched the first two innings, striking out one and did not walk a batter, while Blaser tossed the final three innings, striking out three and walking one. At the plate, SMU banged out 13 hits en route to its season-high 16 runs. Lindsey Smith (Elma, Iowa) led the offensive barrage, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Ann Munzenmaier (Urbandale, Iowa) went 2-for-4, while Hocking was 2-for-2 with a bases-clearing triple in the Cardinals' 10-run second inning.
