WINONA, Minn. — Jill Hocking (Apple Valley, Minn.) tossed a three-hit shutout and went 2-for-2 with a three-run triple as the Saint Mary's University fastpitch softball team defeated UW-River Falls 8-0 in a nonconference game Tuesday afternoon.

Game 2 of the scheduled doubleheader was rained out.

The Cardinals, who banged out 11 hits en route to their 22nd straight win, scored once in the first, three times each in the third and fourth, and once in the fifth. Gina Rizzardi (Woodbury, Minn.) and Annie Hovde (Cottage Grove, Minn.) each went 2-for-3, while Jackie Huegel (Alta Vista, Iowa) added a two-run triple in three at-bats. Jennifer Miller (Winona, Minn.), Rizzardi and Lindsey Smith (Elma, Iowa) drove in SMU's other three runs.

Hocking went the distance on the mound, tossing a three-hit shutout — 12th complete game of the season and her team-leading 14th win against just four losses.

SMU (28-5 overall) opened the scoring in the first as Jennifer Meyer (Oconomowoc, Wis.) laced a two-out single, stole second and scored on Rizzardi's RBI single. The Cardinals made it 4-0 with three runs in the third — all with two outs. Hocking started things off with a two-out double. Rizzardi followed with a double, advancing Hocking to third, and the two scored on Huegel's two-run triple. Smith then drove Huegel in with an RBI double.

Hocking's one-out single drove in SMU's three fourth-inning runs, and Miller laced a double to score Smith from second with the game's final run in the fifth.
