Game Summary
PELLA, Iowa — This time, the Saint Mary's University men's soccer team made things a little easier on first-year head coach Eric Luzzi.
After rallying for a 2-1, double-overtime victory in their season-opener against Loras last Sunday, the Cardinals erupted for four goals en route to a 4-0 nonconference win over Central-Iowa.
Shawn Stewart (McHenry, Ill.) scored a pair of goals — the game's first just 1:27 into the first half, and the game's last with just over 18 minutes remaining — while Eric Brown (Cary, Ill.) and Brent Anderson (Maple Grove, Minn.) accounted for SMU's other two goals.
Matt Peck (Eau Claire, Wis.) picked up the shutout in goal, stopping both Dutch shots — including one on a penalty kick 10 minutes into the second half with the Cardinals clinging to a 2-0 advantage. SMU, meanwhile, peppered Central goalie Aaron Austin with 12 shots.
The Cardinals, who improve to 2-0-0, travel to Upper Iowa on Sunday.
