Game Summary

WINONA, Minn. — Through the first 20 minutes of Wednesday's Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game against St. Thomas, the Saint Mary's University men's basketball team had put up just as many shots, attempted one more 3-pointer, and had taken two more free throws.

And the Cardinals trailed by 13.

While SMU managed to connect on just 8 of its 26 first-half field goal attempts, the Tommies nailed 13 of their 26 shots. UST knocked down 5 of its 11 3-point attempts, compared to just 2 of 12 for SMU.

The Cardinals' stroke heated up a bit in the second half, as SMU nailed 10 of its 25 field goal attempts, but it was too little, too late, as St. Thomas cruised to a 76-52 victory.

Ryan Wilt (Naperville, Ill.) led the way for SMU (1-4 MIAC, 1-7 overall), scoring 16 points, while Brett Johnson (Onalaska, Wis.), who entered the game leading the team with a 16.3 ppg average, managed just one point.

Mark Buri netted a game-high 20 points and Jimmy Sioris added 16 to lead the way for St. Thomas (4-1 MIAC, 8-2 overall).
