Game Summary
STEVENS POINT, Wis. — The Saint Mary's University women's hockey team entered Saturday's nonconference showdown with UW-Stevens Point with every right to feel a bit invincible.
After all, the Cardinals came into the contest riding a five-game winning streak. Even more impressive, however, was the fact that during that five-game span, the Cardinals had outscored their opponents 25-1.
The Pointers, however, were unimpressed.
Led by two goals from Ann Ninnemann, UW-Stevens Point showed just why it is the fourth-ranked team in the nation, as the Pointers rolled to a 3-0 nonconference victory over the Cardinals.
After a scoreless first period, the Pointers, whose lone loss in 19 games this season was a 5-1 setback to UW-Superior on Dec. 15, netted a power-play goal with just 1:07 remaining to take a 1-0 advantage into the locker room after two periods.
And with Shannon Kasparek in goal, that one goal is all the Pointers would need as Kasparek stopped all 20 shots the Cardinals put on goal en route to her third shutout of the season.
Ninnemann then put the game out of reach in the third period, scoring a shorthanded goal at the 9:35 mark, then adding her second of the game, and team-leading 15th of the season six minutes later.
Missie Meemken (St. Cloud, Minn.) took the loss in goal for SMU, despite stopping 24 shots.
