Game Summary

ST. PAUL, Minn. — The good news is, the Saint Mary's University men's basketball team scored 16 more points than it did last Saturday against Gustavus.

The bad news is, that's still 17 points less than St. Thomas scored, as the Tommies beat the Cardinals for the 28th straight time, 64-47 in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game Monday evening.

The Cardinals, coming off a season-low 31-point effort in a 59-31 loss to Gustavus on Saturday, matched the Tommies shot-for-shot through the game's opening 20 minutes. SMU shot 45 percent from the field (10-for-22), compared to the Tommies 34 percent (8-for-23), but UST connected on 13 of 14 free throws in grabbing a four-point, 32-28, halftime advantage.

The second half, however, was another story.

For the second straight game, the Cardinals failed to score at least a point a minute over the game's final 20 minutes. SMU scored just seven field goals and made just 4 of 7 free throws — and were outscored 32-19 — in losing for the second straight time and seventh time in its last eight games.

Ryan Wilt (Naperville, Ill.) was the only Cardinal player to score in double figures, finishing with 15 points. Kevin Fitzgerald netted 15 points for the Tommies, who remained in a first-place tie with Gustavus with the win, while Mark Paulson added 12 points and Cole Butler finished with 10.
