Game Summary
WINONA, Minn. — After getting torched for three goals and an assist by Saint Mary's University's Missy Westergren (Lonsdale, Minn.) in her first game back in a Cardinals' uniform Friday evening, the Bethel women's hockey team held SMU's all-time leading scorer pointless in Saturday's rematch.
Problem was, by focusing all their efforts on shutting down Westergren, the Royals learned the hard way that SMU is not a one-dimensional team.
Christ'y Hicks (Bloomington, Minn.) scored four goals and assisted on another, while Tennie McCabe (Rochester, Minn.) tallied three goals and added two assists as the Cardinals completed their sweep of the Royals 8-3 Saturday afternoon.
Hicks collected three of her four goals in the first period as SMU jumped out to a 3-1 advantage. Bethel cut the lead to 3-2 12 minutes into the second period, but that was a close as the Royals would get as McCabe scored twice and Jaimie Mussehl (South St. Paul, Minn.) once in the final eight minutes of the period to give SMU a commanding 6-2 advantage.
McCabe capped off her first hat trick of the season five minutes into the third period and Hicks netted her fourth as SMU improved to 6-3-1 overall.
