Game Summary

ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University women's basketball team picked up its first win of the new year last Saturday with a 49-46 victory over Augsburg.

Yet, to SMU coach Kim Fierke, the Cardinals' performance against the Auggies was nothing to feel too good about. The win was nice, but the Cardinals' performance was certainly nothing to write home about.

The Cardinals didn't have long to dwell on their sub-par performance, however, not with a road game at Hamline two days later.

Unfortunately for the Pipers, the Cardinals had quickly forgotten all about their dismal offensive performance, as SMU scorched the nets for 82 points Monday evening en route to an 82-69 victory over the Pipers.

The Cardinals connected on 11 of their 24 attempts from the field (46 percent) and added 20 more points from the free throw line (20-for-34) in opening a commanding 44-33 advantage at the half. SMU turned up the heat even more in the second half, shooting 52 percent from the field (11-for-21) and going 15-for-19 from the free throw line to post their second straight win and eighth win in 11 games this season.

Amy Burns (Winona, Minn.) led a quartet of Cardinals players in double figures with a game-high 18 points. Alissa Erichsen (Spring Valley, Minn.) finished with 16 points, while Stacy Hammel (Manitowoc, Wis.) and Jamie Rattunde (Rollingstone, Minn.) added 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Jessica Barrett's 16 points led the way for Hamline (1-4 MIAC, 1-7 overall).
