Game Summary

LISLE, Ill. — Talk about a case of perfect timing.

Just two days after Brian Reddish (Crystal Lake, Ill.) recorded his first two collegiate goals in leading the Saint Mary's University men's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Rockford, senior Shawn Stewart (McHenry, Ill.) scored his first three goals of the season — and the first hat trick of his career — as the Cardinals shut out Benedictine 4-0 Sunday afternoon.

The Cardinals, who improved to 6-5-2 with their second straight win — their first two-game winning streak of the season — scored all four goals in the first half.

Stewart opened the scoring at the 6:46 mark, taking a feed from Reddish and beating Benedictine goalie Brandon Merkel. Mike Lardner (St. Joseph, Mich.) made it 2-0 21 minutes later, before Stewart completed his hat trick with a pair of goals six minutes apart midway through the half.

Bob Endemann (Woodridge, Ill.) and Josh Simonson (Chanhassen, Minn.) combined for the shutout, with Endemann stopping two first-half shots, whlie Simonson stopped all five shots he faced in the second half.
