Match Summary

INDIANOLA, Iowa — It wasn't exactly the ending the Cardinals were hoping to write.

After splitting their first two games at the Simpson Invitational, the Saint Mary's University volleyball team was looking for better things when they squared off against No. 10-ranked Wartburg and host Simpson.

Unfortunately, they didn't get it.

The Cardinals took Wartburg to the limit, before falling in five games, 30-24, 30-27, 19-30, 26-30, 15-10, then ran out of gas in their tournament finale against Simpson, losing 3-1 (30-17, 24-30, 30-21, 30-24).

Tracy Koertgen (Crystal Lake, Ill.) collected a season-high 30 kills in the loss to Wartburg, while Kirstan Rouzer (Comstock, Wis.) chipped in 19 kills and Katie Christensen (Crystal Lake, Ill.) added 11 kills. Rouzer led the team in digs (21), while Melissa Cowan (Algonquin, Ill.) dished out 72 assists.

Koertgen and Rouzer again led the way against Simpson, finishing with 19 and 10 kills, respectively. Cowan tallied 41 assists, while Ashley Dingels (Gibbon, Minn.) recorded five blocks and five aces.
