Game Summary
COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. — It's happened all season, why should the Saint Mary's University men's basketball team's season-finale be any different.
The Cardinals shot 55 percent from the field, connecting on 16 of 29 field goals, and held a slim, two-point, 39-37 halftime lead over St. John's Saturday afternoon.
Problem was, there were still 20 minutes to play.
And while SMU did shoot 43 percent from the field in the second half, that was nothing compared to the Johnnies second-half outburst. SJU made 18 of 29 field goals — including 6 of 8 from beyond the 3-point line — en route to 51 second-half points and an 88-66 win over the Cardinals.
Jason Dzick (Duluth, Minn.), playing in his final collegiate game, scored a game-high 19 points, going 7-for-9 from the field with three 3-pointers, and added a 2-for-3 performance from the free throw line. Freshman Luke Rath (Spring Valley, Minn.) turned in his best performance of the season as well, scoring 13 points and pulling down a team-high six rebounds.
Dusty Lamker netted 16 points to lead four SJU players in double figures. Luke Witt and Mike Nester each tallied 15 points, while Ryan Keating collected a double-double with 10 points and 11 assists.
The loss was the seventh in the final eight games for the Cardinals, who closed out the season at 5-15 in the MIAC and 5-19 overall.
