Game Summary

MOORHEAD, Minn. — It all boiled down to one game, 60 minutes, with the winner getting the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference playoff berth.

After 60 minutes, the berth was still up in the air as the Saint Mary's University and Concordia men's hockey teams were deadlocked at 3-3.

Needing a win to earn the playoff berth — thanks in part to Friday's 5-3 loss, which pushed the Cobbers one point in front of the Cardinals — SMU pulled its goalie with 1:06 remaining in the overtime and Concordia took advantage, as Andy Crook scored an empty-net goal with five seconds remaining to secure the 4-3 victory.

And eliminate the Cardinals from the post-season party.

Todd Hangge (Rochester, Minn.), Justin Brigl (Apple Valley, Minn.) and Ryan Holland (Winona, Minn.) all scored first-period goals to give SMU what appeared to be a commanding 3-0 advantage.

The Cobbers, however, turned the tables in the second period, scoring three goals of their own to tie the game at 3-3 with 20 minutes to play.

The Cardinals peppered Concordia goalie Jason Gregorie with 14 third-period shots, but came away empty each time.

The Cardinals closed out their season with a 7-7-2 MIAC record and a 12-10-3 overall mark.
