Game Summary

WINONA, Minn. — New day, same old result.

It's like the Saint Mary's Unviersity men's basketball team has been transformed into a record — you know, one of those musical disks, invented long before the CD and played on a turn-table. A record with a big scratch that's forcing them to repeat the same verse over, and over, and over, and over … .

On Saturday, the Cardinals, led by a game-high 19 points from Ryan Wilt (Naperville, Ill.) did exactly what they've done in virtually every one of their games this season — they jumped out to a halftime lead — this time holding a four-point, 30-26 advantage over Carleton.

Over the game's final 20 minutes, the Cardinals equalled their first-half offensive output, scoring 30 points, while actually shooting percentage points better from the field than they had in the opening half. Problem was, the Cardinals' defense wasn't quite as air-tight, as Carleton erupted for 42 second-half points en route to the 68-60 MIAC victory.

Along with Wilt's game-high offensive output — the sixth straight game the junior forward has led the Cardinals in scoring — Lance Larson (Lakeville, Minn.) chipped in 16 points for SMU, which has now lost a season-high six straight in falling to 4-14 in the MIAC and 4-18 overall.

Four of Carleton's five starters scored in double figures, led by Steve Nuessle's 18 points. Tanner Schieck finished with 16 points, while Scott Christensen added 11 and Matt Stangle tallied 10.
