Carleton seniors too much for Cardinals to handle as Knights post 73-57 win

Game Summary

NORTHFIELD, Minn. — Maybe it was the fact that it was Senior Night for the Carleton women's basketball team.

Maybe it was the fact that the Knights still hadn't forgotten Saint Mary's University's last-second, 64-63 victory the first time these two teams met.

Maybe it was a combination of both.

Whatever the reason, the Knights weren't about to come up on the short end the second time around as Carleton — led by seniors Renee Willette and Bethany Koehler — cruised to a 73-57 win Saturday afternoon.

The Knights, who entered the game ranked No. 24 in the latest Division III poll, won for the 10th time in their last 11 games and maintained a share of the MIAC lead. SMU (11-9 MIAC, 14-10 overall), meanwhile, had its two-game winning streak snapped.

Willette and Koehler both scored 15 points to pace the Knights, with Willette netting 6 of 12 field goals and adding a 3-for-4 performance from the free throw line, while Koehler drained 3 of 6 3-pointers and was perfect in four tries from the free throw line. Cara Jones chipped in 11 points and Angie Grabowski tallied 10 for the Knights (17-3 MIAC, 19-4 overall).

Stacy Hammel (Manitowoc, Wis.) scored a game-high 16 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in the losing effort for SMU, while Jamie Rattunde (Rollingstone, Minn.) finished with 13 points and eight boards.
