LA CROSSE, Wis. —
Geoff Granseth's (Winona, Minn.) match at No. 1 singles pretty much summed up the Saint Mary's University men's tennis team's match against UW-La Crosse in a nutshell.
Close, but not close enough.
Granseth lost a heart-breaking three-setter, winning the first set 7-5, before dropping the next two, 6-1, 7-5. And the rest of Wednesday's matches seemed to follow suit as the Eagles rolled to a 7-0 nonconference victory.
Mark Leeder (Milwaukee, Wis.) fell 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 singles, while
Brad Reichuber (Mahtomedi, Minn.) and
Bryan Haville (Onalaska, Wis.) came close before bowing out at No. 3 and No. 4 singles.
And it was more of the same in doubles, where Leeder and Haville were beaten 8-6 at No. 2, while Granseth and Reichuber came up short in an 8-4 decision at No. 1.
