Game Summary

WINONA, Minn. — After opening the season with two games on the road, the Cardinals were eager to strut their stuff in front of their home fans Saturday afternoon.

Unfortunately, Mother Nature wasn't the only one to rain on the Cardinals' parade, as Central scored two unanswered goals — the second seven minutes into overtime — as the Dutch handed SMU its first loss of the season, 2-1.

The Cardinals dominated the opening 45 minutes, showing no ill effects from the constant rain that fell throughout the half. SMU held a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal in the first half, and, thanks to Mike Boland's (Lake Zurich, Ill.) team-leading third goal of the season — a rocket into the upper left-hand corner with just under 13 minutes remaining in the first half — the Cardinals went into the intermission with a 1-0 advantage.

The Cardinals' domination continued in the second half, as SMU once again held a commanding 6-2 advantage in shots on goal. Central, however, made one of its two shots count, however, as Tim Dobberfuhl beat Cardinal goalkeeper Bob Endemann (Woodridge, Ill.) at the 71-minute mark to tie the game at one.

The Dutch got the game-winning 7:11 into overtime as Nathan Weir beat Endemann to push Central's season-opening winning streak to six straight.
