Game Summary
WINONA, Minn. — Heading into Tuesday's Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener against Augsburg, the Saint Mary's University women's soccer team was still searching for some offensive firepower.
The Cardinals were coming off a 1-0 win over Benedictine on Sunday, but that goal was the only one they had scored in their first five goals.
Fortunately for SMU, the Auggies hadn't fared much better in the goals department, managing just two goals in its first four games.
All that changed Tuesday — for Augsburg.
The Auggies bettered their four-game combined offensive output by one, scoring three times, while holding SMU without a goal for the fifth time this season en route to a 3-0 victory at Ochrymowycz Field.
Millie Suk did all the damage for the Auggies (1-2-0 MIAC, 3-2-0 overall), scoring once in the first half, then adding two more goals in the second. Suk got the Auggies on the board early, beating SMU goalie Dianna Kyllo (Kasson, Minn.) just 2:20 into the first half.
The Cardinals (0-1-0 MIAC, 1-5-0 overall) held Augsburg at bay the rest of the half, and faced a 1-0 deficit heading into the final 45 minutes of play. Unfortunately, SMU could not find a way to contain Suk, who pushed the Augsburg lead to 2-0 at the 71:04 mark, then completed the hat trick with her third goal 13 minutes later.
