Game Summary
NORTHFIELD, Minn. — For 45 minutes of Saturday's Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game against Carleton, the Saint Mary's University women's soccer team took whatever the Knights could dish out, and when the horn sounded, SMU had battled to a 0-0 tie.
Unfortunately, the game of soccer consists of two 45-minute halves, not just one. And Carleton took full advantage of that second 45 minutes, scoring three times in handing SMU its second straight 3-0 defeat.
The Cardinals, who had opened their MIAC schedule with a 3-0 loss to Augsburg last Wednesday, struggled offensively, managing just two shots on goal, while SMU goalie Dianna Kyllo (Kasson, Minn.) faced 10 shots, stopping seven of them.
Caroline Conrad opened the scoring for Carleton (1-1 MIAC, 2-3-2 overall), picking up a loose ball and pushing it into the goal seven minutes into the second half. Caitlin Coomes made it 2-0 at the 70-minute mark and, a minute later, Stella Schulte rounded out the scoring, lacing a shot off the back post and in.
