WINONA, Minn. — No sense wasting any time.

The Saint Mary's University volleyball team made quick work of MIAC rival St. Catherine in the opening round of the SMU Sugar Loaf Classic Friday afternoon, cruising to a 3-0 victory over the Wildcats in a match that lasted just under one hour.

Ashley Dingels (Gibbon, Minn.) hit .500 and collected a match-high 15 kills as the Cardinals (5-1 overall) rolled to wins of 30-15, 30-19 and 30-18. Tracy Koertgen (Crystal Lake, Ill.) and Kirstan Rouzer (Comstock, Wis.) each chipped in 10 kills, while Rouzer also tallied 10 digs and Koertgen totaled six blocks. Melissa Cowan (Algonquin, Ill.) finished with 37 assists as the Cardinals rebounded from its first loss of the season – a 3-1 setback at UW-La Crosse last Wednesday — to win for the fifth time in six matches.
