Game Summary

WINONA, Minn. — When the Saint Mary's University men's basketball team squared off against Hamline the first time around in December, the Cardinals put six players in double figures en route to an 83-70 victory — SMU's first win of the season.

Wednesday evening at the SMU gym, the Cardinals were hoping a win over the Pipers would put an end to another streak — this one a season-high six-game losing streak.

Unfortunately, a game-high 20 points from Jim Wangler (Wheaton, Ill.) and double-figure scoring from Nick Michaels (Dyer, Ind.) and Ryan Bormann (Preston, Iowa) wasn't enough to get the job done as the Cardinals dropped a 66-60 decision.

After falling behind by five, 34-29, at the half, the Cardinals battled back, and found themselves deadlocked at 53-53 with five minutres remaining.

Yet, as has been the case all season for the struggling Cardinals, when they needed a big shot, they couldn't get one to fall, as Hamline outscored SMU 13-7 down the stretch to ice the win.

Along with Wangler's game-high 20 points, Michaels chipped in 16 and Bormann added 12 for the Cardinals, who have now lost seven straight.
