Cardinals win big, lose big at UW-L

Match Summary

LA CROSSE, Wis. — There was no middle ground for the Saint Mary's University volleyball team Friday evening — it was either win big, or lose big.

The Cardinals opened the UW-La Crosse Invitational with an impressive 3-0, 30-16, 30-25, 30-27 win over Augustana, then turned around and were swept by Loras 3-0, 30-25, 30-28, 30-27.

Molli Dant (Forest City, Iowa) led the way for the Cardinals against Augustana, collecting 10 kills and 11 digs. Tracy Koertgen (Crystal Lake, Ill.) and Mollie Melton (Oronoco, Minn.) each chipped in eight kills, while Tessa Stranik (Eatonville, Wash.) tallied 29 assists and 11 digs.

Koertgen and Kirstan Rouzer (Comstock, Wis.) took center stage in the loss to Loras, as Koertgen tallied 15 kills, 11 digs and three blocks, while Rouzer added 12 kills, 24 digs and one block. Stranik recorded 39 assists and 20 digs, while Melton finished with 10 kills and two blocks.
