Game Summary
MOORHEAD, Minn. — Eight minutes and 12 seconds, that's how long it took for a pair of streaks to come to a screeching half.
Unfortunately for the Saint Mary's University men's soccer team, the streak-halting that occurred through Saturday's 2-1 outcome was not in their favor.
Concordia put an end to a 15-game Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference winless streak — while snapping SMU's two-game unbeaten string (a 2-0 win vs. Augsburg and a 0-0 tie vs. Gustavus) — with a 2-1 victory over the Cardinals.
And all it took was 8:12.
The Cobbers scored with 34 seconds remaining in the opening half, then pushed that advantage to 2-0 7:38 into the second half. The Cardinals tried to come back, getting a goal from
Michael Johnson (Woodbury, Minn.) at the 64-minute mark, but that was all the offense SMU could muster in falling to 1-3-1 in the MIAC and 1-8-1 overall.
Bob Endemann (Woodridge, Ill.) finished with five saves for SMU, while Concordia goalkeeper Kris Overby stopped eight of the nine Cardinal shots on goal.
