Game Summary

ST. PAUL, Minn. — All season long, the Saint Mary's University men's soccer team has struggled to score goals.

Heading into Saturday's Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game against Hamline, the Cardinals had scored just 16 goals in 16 games — a school-record eight of which came in an 8-4 nonconference win vs. Simpson.

So why should Saturday be any different?

Despite putting 11 shots on goal, the Cardinals were unable to put one past Hamline goalkeeper Paul Hajny, as the two teams battled to a 0-0 tie.

The Cardinals, who closed out the season with a 3-5-2 MIAC mark and a 4-10-2 overall record, held an 11-6 edge in shots on goal — including a 5-2 advantage in the second half — but failed to score for the 10th time in 17 games.

SMU did get a six-save shutout performance from freshman goalkeeper Tyler Nelson (Racine, Wis.), who now has three shutouts in four starts for the Cardinals this season.
