NORTHFIELD, Minn. — In her last seven games, Emily Kearns (Hopkins, Minn.) had scored 12 of the team's 22 goals for the Saint Mary's University women's hockey team — accounting for.

Sunday afternoon, Christy Hicks (Bloomington, Minn.) decided to give the sophomore the day off.

Hicks scored both of SMU's goals, as the Cardinals rallied from a 2-1 first-period deficit to salvage a 2-2 tie with St. Olaf.

Hicks got h Cardinals on the board first, taking a feed from Josie Nechodom (Oakdale, Minn.) and beating St. Olaf goalie Andrea Smith at the 16:27 mark.

The lead, however, was short-lived as St. Olaf tied the game two minutes later, then added another with 10 seconds remaining in the period to take a 2-1 advantage.

The Oles peppered SMU goalie Missie Meemken (St. Cloud, Minn.) with 15 shots in the second period, but came up empty every time, as St. Olaf clung to its one-goal lead heading into the final 20 minutes.

With the Oles' Sarah Johnson in the penalty box for cross checking, HIcks finally got the Cardinals even, scoring the game's final goal midway through the period.

The OT tie was the second straight overtime game between the two teams, with St. Olaf picking up a 3-2 overtime win in Saturday's first game of the two-game series.

With the tie, SMU moves to 8-4-4 in the MIAC and 8-9-6 overall. The Cardinals are currently in fifth place, one point behind Concordia and St. Olaf, and one point ahead of Augsburg for the fifth and final playoff spot.
