Cardinals' final tune-up for MIAC a winning one

RIVER FALLS, Wis. — The Saint Mary's University women's tennis team closed out its regular season on a high note Wednesday, cruising to a 6-3 nonconference win over UW-River Falls.

"We finished off the regular season in good form," understated SMU coach Jeff Halberg, whose team enteres this weekend's Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament having won two straight matches and threeof its last four. "This was a good, final warm-up for the conference tournament — hopefully we can keep things rolling."

Joni Peterson (New London, Minn.), Allison Ast (Conway Springs, Kan.), Angie Beissel (Hastings, Minn.) and Jennifer Duffy (Chioago, Ill.) all picked up singles wins for the Cardinals, with Peterson and Ast needed three sets at No. 1 and No. 4, respectively.

Beissel and Duffy also teamed for an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles, while Ast hooked up with Amnada Clark (Waseca, Minn.) for an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles.
