Game Summary

ST. PAUL, Minn. — It wasn't nearly as easy as their 19- and 18-point victories at the Colorado College Tournament last weekend — but it was more important.

After all, along with pushing their season-opening winning streak to three straight with Wednesday's 78-70 win over St. Catherine, the Saint Mary's University also got their Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference season off on the right foot.

Jamie Rattunde (Rollingstone, Minn.) just missed her third straight double-double, scoring a game-high 26 points, while adding nine rebounds. Ashley Luehmann (Lewiston, Minn.) chipped in 18 points, while Angie Arrington (Spring Grove, Minn.) finished with 13 for the Cardinals.

SMU — 3-0 for the first time since the 1985-86 season, when the Cardinals opened the season with 18 straight wins — shot 48 percent from the field (30-for-63), including a blistering 57 percent (16 of 28) in the first half when they jumped out to a 42-33 advantage.

Things cooled off a bit in the second half, as SMU struggled from the field, making just 14 of 35 field goals — and just 1 of 8 from behind the 3-point line. The Wildcats took advantage of the Cardinals' frigid shooting, going on an 11-2 run to open the half to tie the game for the first time all night, 44-44. CSC continued to turn up the heat, putting together its second straight 11-2 run to take its biggest lead of the game, 55-46, with 13:17 remaining.

The Cardinals used a 14-8 run of their own to tie the game at 63-63, and SMU scored 15 of the game's final 22 points to seal the win.

Kate Bremmer led a trio of Wildcats in double figures, scoring 21 points in the losing effort.
