Game Summary

ST. JOSEPH, Minn.— It didn't take the Saint Mary's University women's hockey team long to get on the scoreboard in their Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener against St. Benedict Friday evening — but it took the Cardinals a long time to get goal No. 2.

In fact, when SMU steps on the ice for Saturday's rematch against the Blazers, they will still be waiting for that second goal.

Rachel Harrison (Madison, Wis.) gave the Cardinals a 1-0 lead just a minute and a half into the opening period, but the Blazers netted three unanswered goals, including two in the third period, to hand SMU a 3-1 setback at the St. Cloud Municipal Athletic Complex.

The Cardinals had the upper hand through the game's first two periods, outshooting St. Benedict 24-15, but only had Harrisoin's early first-period goal to show for their efforts, as the teams headed into the game's final 20 minutes tied 1-1.

Sarah Wilson put CSB on top at the 7:15 mark of the third period, and Erin Baldwin's powerplay goal with less than three minutes remaining in regulation iced the Blazers' first win of the season.

Amanda Gage (Lino Lakes, Minn.) finished with 24 saves for the Cardinals (1-2 MIAC, 3-4-0 overall), who have now dropped four of their last five games. Chelsie Kahlhamer kicked out 30 of the Cardinals' 31 shots for St. Benedict.
