MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Any time a player eclipses the 1,000 career-point plateau, it's a memorable moment.

Saturday afternoon, Saint Mary's University junior Jamie Rattunde (Rollingstone, Minn.) made sure that when she became just the sixth player in SMU history to reach 1,000 points, she made it extra special.

Rattunde scored a team-high 24 points — giving her 1,003 for her career — and added 16 rebounds and 10 assists for her second career triple-double, as the Cardinals crushed Augsburg 98-73 in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game.

"It was great to see Rat reach 1,000 points, and then to post the triple-double on top of that, that was impressive," said SMU coach Dan Messmann, whose team has now won two straight and three of their last four in improving to 15-8 overall and 14-6 in the MIAC. "We didn't do anything special in the first half, but in the second, we got on an offensive roll and just kept going."

SMU jumped out to a 44-40 halftime advantage, shooting 38 percent from the field (14-for-37) and adding a 10-for-14 effort from the free throw line.

The second half, however, was another story, as the Cardinals shot a blistering 61 percent from the field, canning 20 of 33 field goals and 10 of 12 free throws. SMU used a 14-3 run over a four-minute span early in the second half to turn that four-point halftime lead into a 14-point, 63-49 cushion. Augsburg retaliated with a 13-3 run of its own to cut the lead back to four, 66-62, with 8:15 left. Over those final eight minutes, however, it was all SMU, as the Cardinals outscored the Auggies 32-11 the rest of the way in sealing the win.

Rattunde was one of five SMU players to score in double figures. Angie Arrington (Spring Grove, Minn.) tossed in 21 points, while Ashley Luehmann (Lewiston, Minn.) tallied 15 and Tessa Stranik (Eatonville, Wash.) and Megan Moran (Burlington, Wis.) each added 11.

Selina Theisen scored a game-high 32 points in the losing effort for the Auggies.
