ST. PETER, Minn. — The day certainly got off on the right foot for the Saint Mary's University women's tennis team, as the Cardinals swept the three doubles matches and won four of the six singles matches en route to a 7-2 nonconference win over Minnesota State Saturday morning.
In their second match of the day, however, the Cardinals were all left feet, as defending Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champion Gustavus manhandled SMU, winning all six singles matches in straight sets en route to the 9-0 victory.
Ashley Meschke (Pequot Lakes, Minn.) and
Jennifer Cochran (Winona, Minn.) each posted 6-3, 6-2 wins vs. Minnesota State, while
Lisa Thompson (Lake City, Minn.) and
Christina Tobin (Oak Park, Ill.) also posted singles victories, winning 6-4, 6-2 and 7-5, 7-5, respectively.
Thompson and Tobin teamed for an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles, while Meschke-
