Meet Summary

WOODBURY, Minn. — Reviews were mixed for the Saint Mary's University men's golf team's season-opening dual against Macalester Monday.

Thumbs up to the front-nine 38 by Curtis Nosal (Omaha, Neb.), the front-nine 39 by Kyle Roark (Waterloo, Iowa), the back-nine 39 by Mark Miller (Winona, Minn.) and the final-round 80 by Roark.

Thumbs down to the final score, in which the Cardinals were beaten by Macalester 321-329.

"It's tough to lose a close match like that, but I'm not overly disappointed," said SMU coach Tom Farren. "It was our first match of the season, and for most of these guys, it was the first time seeing that course. I thought we got some pretty good nine-hole scores, and hopefully, next week (at the Winona State Invitational) we can step things up a bit."

Along with Roark's 80, SMU got an 82 (41-41) from Scott Savage (Mahtomedi, Minn.), an 83 from Nosal (38-45), an 84 from Miller (45-39) and a 99 (46-53) from Jake Runyon (New Haven, Ind.).
