Game Summary

NORTHFIELD, Minn. — Things started out on the right foot for the Saint Mary's University men's basketball team Monday against Carleton.

Jeff Tendall (LeClaire, Iowa) knocked down a pair of free throws and Dan Kloak (Elmwood Park, Ill.) tossed in a field goal to give the Cardinals a 4-2 lead at the 16:47 mark of the first half.

Unfortunately, by the time the Cardinals recorded their next points, on a 3-pointer by Tendall, there was just over eight minutes left in the first half — and the Cardinals were trailing 25-7.

Fueled by that 23-0 run, Carleton raced out to a 35-19 halftime advantage and never looked back in rolling to a 64-43 win over the Cardinals in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game.

The Cardinals' ice-cold first-half shooting — 8-for-25 from the field (1 of 8 from the 3-point line) — didn't heat up much in the second half, either, as SMU missed its first four field goal attempts and finished 8-for-26 (30 percent) in falling for the second straight game.

Tendall finished as the Cardinals' scoring leader, tossing in a game-high 14 points, while teammate Dan Cormier (Blaine, Minn.) chipped in 10 rebounds. Kyle Beste netted 13 points and Tommy Drake and Anthony Baquero each finished with 12 points for the Knights.
