Game Summary

MILWAUKEE, Wis. — It's been nearly a month since the Saint Mary's University men's hockey team last played.

And Friday night, the rust showed.

Milwaukee School of Engineering scored three goals in the second period in handing SMU its first loss of the new year, 4-1.

The Raiders, who have now won five straight, got on the board early in the first period as James Shipley beat SMU goalie Ryne Ess (Eden Prairie) at the 4: 54 mark.

MSOE then broke the game open in the second period, scoring twice in the opening five minutes — the first by Blair Hamberg and the second by Joe Swanson — before Jake Basten's power-play goal with less than a minute remaining gave the Raiders a 4-0 cushion heading into the final period.

The Cardinals ruined the shutout bid of MSOE goalie Joe Dovalina, as Ryan Radke (Woodbury, Minn.) netted SMU's lone goal with four minutes remaining.
