Game Summary

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. — Through the first 13 games of the Saint Mary's University men's soccer season, Tim Bollis (Milwaukee, Wis.) had scored just one goal and just one assist.

Tuesday afternoon, the Cardinal freshman doubled his offensive output — and it could not have come at a better time.

Bollis scored his second goal of the season with 57 seconds left in the first overtime as the Cardinals closed out their Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schedule with a 2-1 victory over Bethel.

With the win, the Cardinals finished with a 5-5 record in the MIAC — their most conference wins since SMU went 5-4-1 in 2002. Saint Mary's closes out its season this weekend, traveling to Santa Cruz, Calif., to take on Cal State-Hayward on Friday and UC-Santa Cruz on Sunday.

Mike Schmitt (Woodridge, Ill.) opened the scoring just three minutes into the first half — off an assist from Bollis — booting the ball past Bethel goalkeeper Dana Hanson. The Royals knotted the game at 1-1 with less than 10 minutes remaining in the half, as Bryce Bohne beat SMU goalkeeper Ryan O'Connor (San Diego, Calif.).

Neither team could score in the second half — thanks in large part to the play of both goalkeepers. O'Connor — who finished with a career-high 22 saves — stopped all 13 second-half shots he faced, while Hanson had nine saves in the game's second 45 minutes.

Bollis finally put an end to the stalemate, taking a feed from Schmitt and beating Hanson at the 99:03 mark.
