WINONA, Minn. — Eric Lindquist doesn't mind sounding like a broken record — not when he's getting the performances that he is out of his Saint Mary's University swimming and diving teams.

"It seems like I say the same thing over and over — but the final score really doesn't matter to me," said Lindquist after his Cardinals fell to Macalester in a dual-meet Friday. "If we can keep turning in swims like we did tonight, I'm going to be happy."

And despite the 91-44 loss by the SMU men and the 121-86 setback by the SMU women, Lindquist was a very happy man Friday evening.

For the third time in three meets, the Cardinals' Danielle Braun (Cold Spring, Minn.) dominated the 100 breaststroke, capturing one of the Cardinals' three individual first-place finishes. Braun touched the wall in 1:21.39 to beat Macalester's Elena Bulat by .10 of a second.

Sarah Hayden (Chatfield, Minn.) picked up a first-place finish in the three-meter diving (156.55 points), while Brian Joyce (Chicago, Ill.) accounted for the other first, touching the wall in 2:24.35 to win the 200 freestyle.

Margaret Walsh (Chicago, Ill.) notched a pair of second-place times of 31.05 in the 50 freestyle and 1:07.99 in the 100 freestyle, while Andrea Hills (Lake Elmo, Minn.) was second in the 100 butterfly (1:24.56) and Kasey Schultz (Cary, Ill.) and Lisa Salm (Chilton, Wis.) were second in the 200 IM (2:55.74) and the 100 backstroke (1:20.70), respectively.

"It was a good meet for us — and that fact that we go right back at it (Saturday at the Macalester Invitational) make it even better," said Lindquist. "It's good to have meets back-to-back like this, because it gives us a little taste of what it's like at the conference championships, when we compete three days in a row.

"Hopefully we can pick right up where we left off tomorrow."
