SMU's Complete Meet Results

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Eric Lindquist had a simple approach to Saturday's Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference duals against St. Thomas — get one more feel for the competitive environment before the season-ending MIAC Championships.

In other words, Lindquist want his Cardinals to get their feet wet — literally and figuratively — one last time.

"It was a pretty laid back meet — we had a number of people swimming in different events than they are accustomed to, but all-in-all, I was happy with our performances," said Lindquist, whose men's team dropped a 47-32 decision to the Tommies, while the Tommie women picked up a 46-29 win over SMU. "We needed one more meet before the conference championships, and I think this one really fit the bill — it was fun, but at the same time, the competition was good and the efforts were outstanding."

Danielle Braun (Cold Spring, Minn.) accounted for one of SMU's four first-place finishes, as the SMU freshman won the 100 breaststroke in 1:13.43. Lindsay DeLaRosby (Two Harbors, Minn.) added a first in the 100 backstroke (1:11.34), and Sean Gibson (Chicago, Ill.) and Brian Joyce (Chicago, Ill.) picked up the other two, winning the 200 freestyle (1:55.37) and 500 freestyle (5:39.68), respectively.

Logan Twedt (Hastings, Minn.) made it a 1-2 SMU finish in the 200 freestyle, finishing second to Gibson in a time of 1:56.75), with Kasey Schultz (Cary, Ill.) doing the same in the 100 backstroke, where she placed second to DeLaRosby with a time of 1:12.59.

"Our main focus all season has been on the conference championships — and now that meet is right around the corner," said Lindquist. "We've been training hard and making sure that all of our preparations have us at our peak for that meet.

"And from what I've seen over the past couple of weeks, I feel we are right on target."
