COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University men's tennis team snapped a three-match losing streak Saturday afternoon with an 8-1 victory over Martin Luther Saturday afternoon.

Unfortunately for the Cardinals, SMU's bid for a second straight win didn't have as favorable an outcome, as St. John's picked up wins in five of the six singles matches — two of which proved to be three-set marathons — en route to a 7-2 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory Sunday afternoon.

Things didn't fare any better for the SMU women across town, as St. Benedict rolled to a 9-0 conference win, snapping the Cardinals' four-match winning streak.

Dan Fahey (Brookfield, Wis.) picked up SMU's lone singles win vs. the Johnnies, rallying from a set down to beat Neil Koehler 3-6, 6-4, 10-3 at No. 6. Tyler Stevenson (Neenah, Wis.) had his five-match winning streak snapped at No. 1 singles, as the SMU junior lost for just the third time in 15 matches with his 7-5, 6-2 setback to Steve Taci.

Ryan Kennedy (Rochester, Minn.) and Tony Miller (Rochester, Minn.) accounted for SMU's other victory, posting an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles.

The Blazers, meanwhile, had little trouble dismantling the Cardinals, winning five of the sixth singles matches in straight sets, while not losing more than four games in any of the three doubles matches. Ann Leeder (Greenfield, Wis.) nearly came away with a win at No. 3 singles, winning the first set at No. 3 singles, 5-7, before falling 6-0, 10-8.
