Match Summary

DECORAH, Iowa — The Saint Mary's University volleyball team got off to a slow start Tuesday evening in their nonconference match against Luther — but they sure finished fast.

After dropping the opening game 30-28, SMU rebounded to win three straight — 30-16, 30-27, 30-26 — to push their winning streak to two in a row.

"It was a tough match to play," said SMU coach Mike Lester, noting that the Luther gym was exceptionally warm, which made it that much tougher to play. "It was one of those matches we just had to battle through. The conditions weren't ideal, but I thought we did a good job of keeping with our game plan."

Lisa Engdahl (North Branch, Minn.) led the SMU offensive attack, collecting 20 kills and 12 digs, while Beth Schubert (Naperville, Ill.) and Megan Roesler (St. Paul, Minn.) chipped in 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Theresa Perrini (Fairway, Kan.) tallied 32 digs and Michelle Mino (Austin, Minn.) finished with 55 assists, as SMU improved to 3-2 overall heading into this weekend's SMU Sugar Loaf Classic.

"It's nice to get a win like this heading into our home tournament," said Lester. "I wouldn't say it was our best performance, but after the sluggish first game, I thought we did a nice job."
