HANCOCK, Mich. — They have become the Saint Mary's University women's hockey team's 1-2 punch.

And it's lethal – just ask Finlandia.

Melissa Mondo (Vadnais Heights, Minn.) and Laura Mueller (St. Paul, Minn.) each scored two goals, as the Cardinals extended their winning streak to a season-high four straight games with a 4-2 nonconference win over Finlandia Saturday afternoon.

"We seem to have everyone playing very well right now – this was a great weekend for us all the way around," said SMU coach Terry Mannor. "It's tough to step out of conference play at this time of the season, but I was very happy with the way this team responded to the challenge and really took charge from the opening faceoff."

And with Mondo and Mueller leading the way, the Cardinals have been unstoppable.

Last Saturday against Concordia, Mondo took center stage, scoring the Cardinals' game-winning goal in overtime of their 2-1 win — off an assist from Mueller.

Friday evening in the opening game of their nonconference series against the Lions, it was Mueller who was in the spotlight, netting the game-winner midway through the overtime period of SMU's 1-0 victory — off an assist from Mondo.

And on Saturday, the two were at it again, both scoring once in the first period and once in the third to push the Cardinals' record to 7-10-2 overall.

"I could not be happier about the way we played," said Mannor, whose team led 2-1 after the opening period then, after Finlandia tied the game 42 seconds into the third period, got back-to-back goals from Mondo and Mueller to ice the win. "For us to come up here and leave with two wins is great — Finlandia's a tough, physical team and I think we learned a lot about ourselves this weekend."
