Game Summary

ST. PAUL, Minn. — After struggling to put together a complete, 40-minute offensive performance, Saint Mary's University women's basketball coach Dan Messmann must have felt pretty good about the way his Cardinals shot the ball Wednesday evening against Hamline.

After all, the Cardinals shot 41 percent from the field and scored 58 points — their second-highest offensive output in their last 14 games.

Unfortunately, as good as the Cardinals' offense was, it wasn't nearly as good as that of the Pipers, as Hamline shot a blistering 59 percent from the field and scored 81 points en route to an 81-58 MIAC win over SMU.

Ashley Luehmann (Lewiston, Minn.) led the way for SMU, which has now dropped three straight, scoring 13 points, while Calla Swenson (West St. Paul, Minn.) chipped in 11.

The Cardinals led by as many as four points in the game's opening 10 minutes, but from there, it was all Hamline, as the Pipers turned SMU's 16-12 advantage into a 39-28 halftime advantage.

And things just went from bad to worse for SMU in the second half, where Hamline outscored the Cardinals 42-30 to seal the win.
