MOORHEAD, Minn. — After nearly three months of preaching it, coach Terry Mannor thinks maybe — just maybe — his Saint Mary's University women's hockey team finally getting it.

At least they seemed to Saturday afternoon.

The Cardinals put together what Mannor tabbed "a total team effort," getting shutout goaltending from Nikki Jung (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) and goals form four different players en route to a 4-0 victory over Concordia.

A victory that snapped the Cardinals' seven-game losing streak.

"I've been preaching all season that, if we are going to be successful, we have to work together as a team, not as a bunch of individuals," said Mannor, whose team had not won since 2-1 decision on Saint Benedict on Dec. 1, 2006. "The difference between this game and the last seven games wasn't the effort — the effort has always been there — it was that we played as a team."

Melissa Mondo (Vadnais Heights, Minn.) who had a hand in all three of SMU's goals in Friday's 6-3 loss — scoring a first-period tally and assisting on the Cardinals' other two goals — got SMU on the board midway through the opening period Saturday. Amy Madden (East Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Rachel Harrison (Madison, Wis.) each added second period goals, and Jenn Shire (Anaheim Hills, Calif.) closed out the scoring with her first goal of the year late in the third period.

While her teammates were busy lighting it up in the offensive end, Jung was doing her part at the other end, kicking out all 23 Concordia shots in posting her first shutout of the season and 11th of her career.

"Nikki played very well, and, defensively, we played very well in front of her," said Mannor. "We didn't give (Concordia) a lot of quality shots, we kept them out on the perimeter for most of the game, and the shots they did get on net, Nikki was there to make the save.

"I'm very pleased with our performance — hopefully it proves to this team what it takes for us to be successful."
